Last week, a teachers’ lounge in South Dallas experienced what I’d like to call the Extreme Makeover – Marketwave edition. As a member company of Entrepreneurs for North Texas (EFNT), and in remembrance of September 11, we accepted a challenge to transform an educator lounge at Atwell Middle School & Law Academy.

MISSION: Redesign the teachers’ lounge
LOCATION: Atwell Middle School & Law Academy
TIME PERIOD: 6 hours
STAFF: 10 Marketwavers

Ours was just one of several renovations conducted throughout the school on September 11 during EFNT’s flagship event, “Freedom Day.” Some local companies painted the walls of the hallways – others painted in classrooms and the gym. All in all, more than 500 corporate volunteers from EFNT came to support the school with their selfless service at the event, which helps commemorate the tragedies of 9/11/2001 through community volunteerism.

*Note: Unofficially, we heard that Marketwave’s teachers’ lounge makeover won the “Lounging Around,” award for the best lounge transformation!

We replaced the drab neutral tones of the teachers’ lounge with vibrant pops of greens, yellows and reds.

The Marketwave team hurries to make the finishing touches on the redesigned space.

We accented the room with pops of green color, like these bright green placemats and apples on the table.

After we finished, we couldn’t help but relax in the new digs!

We painted the other wall with a cool, slate gray to complement the lime green. Add a fab red loveseat with a pop of yellow pillow, and you’ve got a vibrant space!
