This week’s guest post comes from Marketwave’s client services’ intern, Lauren Varghese.
From high school sports to college sororities, and now newest Marketwave team member, I have had my fair share of involvement in group work. From teams that accomplish very little, to teams that work great together (like my colleagues at Marketwave), I have discovered a few things you can do to create your dream team.
Evaluate: Conduct performance evaluations on one another. Set out time to write out each team member’s strengths and weaknesses. Figure out what works for your team. At Marketwave, we are very open with each other. Keep in mind that evaluations should always be constructive. This communication allows team members to become more aware of how they are performing.
Listen: All team members deserve to share their thoughts, especially during a brainstorming session. Give each member of your team the opportunity to voice an opinion and make sure all voices are heard. If you neglect a team member’s rightful opinion, you may have just missed a great solution or idea.
Bond: Make an effort to get to know each other and enjoy some bonding time! By getting to know your team, you’ll find out personal details about one another you may not have known before. For example, a fellow team member may have currently fallen behind in job performance due to a struggle at home. If you take the time to get to know them and have conversations outside of work, you can better support them during their time of need.
A team that works well together paves the way for a successful company and increases employee satisfaction. There are a number of ways to create a dream team. What does your company do to create an environment built for effective teamwork?
