Employees First – Belief in the value of our employees, the strengths each of us bring to the team, and mutual respect. This is one of six core values that Marketwave lives by and we have a fantastic team that follows this mantra each workday. And since everyone on our team works so hard, we think we should have a little fun once in a while! That’s why we incorporate volunteer, team buildings and just plain fun events and activities into our company culture calendar.
We aim to find activities that are fun for the entire team, so we always keep our employees’ interests in mind when planning activities. While it’s difficult to find activities that are at the top of everyone’s fun list, we do our best to accommodate and usually everyone walks away after with a smile on their face.
While most small businesses don’t have the capacity to compete with the perks of Google, even the smallest of companies can come up with their own fun and unique activities. From a happy hour in the office at the end of the day, to an all-day outing like a Texas Rangers baseball game, Marketwave does a range of exciting things as a team. Small budget, no problem: As an example, we do an employee Easter egg hunt each year and it’s fun, silly, inexpensive and everyone loves it! We get a bunch of plastic eggs, fill them with candy and have a few “special prize eggs” with things like a token Starbucks gift card, money (dollar bills), etc. and hide them around the office. It’s like being a kid again and just having some good, old-fashioned fun!
But who has time for all of this planning? Culture Committee: the key to make the planning and coordination of these events a shared responsibility that becomes just as fun as the events for the planners! Not only does culture committee make it all happen, but the committee is the brains behind all of the activity ideas throughout the year and keeps our culture calendar on track.

• Craft beer tasting (we invited clients to this one)
• St. Patrick’s Happy Hour
• Themed potlucks (Cinco de Mayo, Thanksgiving, etc.)
We also pay it forward with offsite volunteer activities such as making lunches for kids in Dallas through Hunger Busters, providing a Christmas party for the children at Mosaic Family Services and our 9/11 Freedom Day of service through Entrepreneurs for North Texas. This actually spills over into our “Giving Back” value as well as our value for company culture, but we still have a great time together doing something good for the community.
