<p>In 2020, Marketwave was hired by San Diego-based Sempra, a leading North American energy infrastructure company, to help them build brand awareness in Texas among their key stakeholders. While Sempra had been in Texas for more than 20 years, recent growth and strategic priorities were happening in Texas, yet Sempra had limited name recognition in the state. Initially, the campaign was going to leverage industry events and Sempra’s role at each. However, after the pandemic halted in-person gatherings, Marketwave quickly adapted and shifted strategy to increase awareness and connect with important stakeholder audiences through earned, owned and paid media.</p>

<p>One of our first steps in supporting Sempra in Texas was conducting benchmark research to establish KPIs for our program. From there, we wrote and finalized their strategic message map for Texas—which focuses on three key pillars—and presented an integrated plan and creative platform to introduce Sempra to their key constituents in Texas and distinguish state news within their corporate marketing channels.</p>
<p>In support of the campaign we:</p>

<li>Developed a Texas landing page within the corporate site to house news and updates related to their Texas business objectives.</li>
<li>Utilize Sempra’s corporate social channels to convey up-to-date Texas content, social graphics and consistently use an #OurEnergyBehindTX hashtag to create measurement opportunities.</li>
<li>Wrote and produced a video series to underscore the pillars of our campaign and tell the brand story in a meaningful, engaging way.</li>
<li>Created and distributed newsletters that inform and educate Sempra’s key audiences.</li>
<li>Ran a paid media campaign to increase followers across social channels, drive site traffic and build brand awareness in major Texas cities.</li>
<li>Supported their title sponsorship at the 35th annual virtual Gulf Coast Power Association (GCPA) fall conference where we prepared their speakers, produced video that was played at the conference and designed the components of their virtual booths for networking.</li>

<p>We have measured our results every step of the way and captured monthly updates to guide our programming and strategic recommendations. As a result, we have exceeded all of our KPIs set early on and have been recognized for our results, earning a Platinum MarCom award for our work in less than a year. Most importantly, our success in 2020 is being used to drive our planning in 2021 and we are able to capitalize on the momentum achieved to continue to communicate Sempra’s commitment and success in Texas.</p>

<p>Many TXU Energy customers were not aware of the largest bill-pay assistance program of any electric utility in the nation. Although the company has a Texas-sized program with dollars that are set aside to help customers who fall on hard times, they needed to ensure that the program remained large enough to meet the needs of a growing customer population. That’s where Marketwave delivered a smart strategy plus a compelling message to help get the word out.</p>

<p>We learned from customer feedback that the key to increasing financial participation in the TXU Energy Aid program was to make it easy to give. The message of “with just 1 minute and $1” you can make an impact on helping someone else make ends meet. By boiling it down to a simple check mark on a bill insert form returned with your monthly payment, customers could pay into this fund and know it would be there for them if they ever needed it. And, besides the “make it simple” strategy, we also made sure to put the program collateral in the hands of local social services agencies that might be the first to connect with customers who needed bill-pay assistance so the Energy Aid program would be serving those most in need.</p>

<p>Since only 6% of Americans own horses and far less are actively seeking a new one, our team recognized we needed to put together a compelling marketing and public relations campaign that moved beyond the state borders of Kentucky where the first Extreme Mustang Makeover (EMM) was taking place and reached surrounding states to find well-qualified adopters. The Mustang Heritage Foundation puts on several Extreme Mustang Makeover events per year in its effort to educate the public about America’s wild mustang population problem and find newly trained horses permanent homes. The EMM visited Lexington, KY, with its first event with a goal of adopting out 100 horses.</p>

<li>Drafted a human interest story about a couple training wild mustangs for the event in the neighboring state of West Virginia</li>

<p>The MHF opted to return to Lexington the next year based on outstanding results and partnered with Marketwave to handle the public outreach as well as other events in Ocala, FL and Fort Worth, TX. In the rampup to the 2018 Lexington event:</p>

<p>Pediatric home health for medically fragile children is an often-overlooked, but growing segment of need in healthcare. Not only are parents of these children challenged with the 24&#215;7 nature of childcare, but home healthcare companies like Epic faced a talent shortage compared to the patient need. In close collaboration with our Epic client, Marketwave crafted a PR strategy to raise awareness and reach more families in need, and an employer branding strategy aimed at military veterans who had transferable skills and strong character traits that made them excellent care team members in the Epic talent pipeline for allied health providers.</p>
